C.S.S.T. REQUIREMENTS AND RULES

THE EMPLOYER OBLIGATIONS


Designate as rescuers the necessary number of people and ensure that they register with an organization recognized by the CSST
to issue a first-aider certificate.
Ensuring the presence of the necessary number of skilled rescuers during working hours.
Designate a person to act as a rescuer and ensuring that the nature of his work do not compromise the rapid and effective response.
Recognize that the person designated as rescuer is deemed to be at work during training, and each time he must intervene as a rescuer
during his working hours.
Provide in the workplace or on the construction site a sufficient number of first aid kits containing the necessary equipment
and ensure that they are available at any time.
The employer must ensure a minimum number of rescuers in the workplace, so that every worker or any worker involved in an accident or discomfort receive immediate first aid.
The Regulations on minimum standards on first aid * stipulates that every employer in a business or on a construction site must ensure the presence of a minimum number of skilled rescuers, at all times during working hours.
This regulation applies to any premise, except of Social Affairs network, specialy those providing health services (RSQ, c.. S-5), which has a medical staff or nurses qualified to give first aid needed to workers in the place.

The minimum number of rescuer is determined for each shift * by applying the following rule:.

PREMISE 50 WORKERS OR LESS 1 RESCUER
CONSTRUCTION SITE10 TO 50 WORKERS1 RESCUER
PREMISE OR
CONSTRUCTION SITE
51 TO 150 WORKERS
AT 51 WORKERS ANS MORE, ADD 1 RESCUER FOR EACH GROUP
OR PART OF A GROUP OF 100 WORKERS.

FORESTRY PREMISE5 WORKERS OR LESS1 RESCUER
FORESTRY PREMISE6 TO 10 WORKERS
AT 11 WORKERS, ADD 1 RESCUER FOR EACH GROUP
OR PART OF A GROU OF 5 WORKERS

Example: In a premise where there is 208 workers, divided in two (2) shifts
we should have five (5) rescuers.

In fact, the regulation means:


1st work shift :155 workers 3 rescuers
2e work shift :53 workers2 rescuers
Total208 workers5 rescuers
